Smaller Is Better: The Smallest Camper Van With a Shower

Smaller camper vans sacrifice space for increased mobility and off-roading capabilities, but some amenities are not worth compromising. So if you are looking for a small camper van with a shower, you are in luck!

The Winnebago Revel is the smallest camper van with a shower and toilet. It has a length of 19 feet and 7 inches (5.97 meters) and sleeps two. It’s built on a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter chassis with the most up-to-date safety technology.

Winnebago Revel Features

The Winnebago Revel is great for off-roading, and you can upgrade it to all-terrain tires to ensure you can reach the wildest places. Conversely, it is also easy to maneuver in cities, driving much like a mini-van.

But despite its size, the Revel makes use of every inch of space to make room for a shower. Though it measures less than 20 feet (6 meters) in length, the Revel fulfills my list of Must-Have Features for Camper Van Interiors.

Chassis

The Winnebago Revel is built on a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter chassis with four-wheel drive. It is constructed with quality materials reflecting the luxury vehicles Mercedes-Benz is known for. The cab has a built-in MBUX infotainment center with GPS.

The 2023 Revel features important safety technology, including:

  • Active Brake Assist
  • Adaptive Cruise Control
  • Back-up Camera
  • Blind Spot Assist
  • Lane-Keeping Assist
  • Traffic Sign Assist

Exterior

The 2023 Revel is available in multiple colors (blue-gray, pebble gray, selenite) and several designs. It also has standard solar panels to help power the van in off-grid adventures. But the best thing about the exterior design of the Revel is that it focuses on maximizing your outdoor space.

A powered patio awning and a fold-down table will help to create a functional outdoor area at your favorite campground. At night, there is LED lighting on the awning as well as ground-facing running board lights and porch light

There are also screen doors on the side and rear of the van to help bring fresh air into the van while keeping the bugs away.

Interior

The interior of the Revel is outfitted with durable materials, including vinyl flooring, folded aluminum cabinets, and slam latches that lay flush when closed.

Sleeping

The standard Winnebago Revel can sleep two people. The 49”x79” (124.5 cm x 200 cm) bed is on a bed lift in the van’s rear, the most common location for beds in camper vans. (Read my article camper van Layouts: Which One is Right for You? to learn about alternate camper van layouts.)

The bed lift allows you to raise the bed to the ceiling for more storage space during the day. The van also has a blackout panel on the back door to protect your privacy and allow you to sleep in without the sun in your eyes.

A portion of the top and bottom of the bed is fixed to the sides of the van, in small cutouts on the sides. To get the full bed length, you have to lower it completely at night.

For an additional fee, you can opt for a front cab air mattress and base to accommodate another person. The mattress is 35”x65” (88 cm x 165 cm), which is smaller than a single, so this add-on is best suited for a child. The cab has privacy screens for the side windows, but you probably want to get a sunshade for the windshield for complete privacy.

Wet Room

Winnebago Revel Bath

The Winnebago Revel has a small 26”x31” (66 cm x 79 cm) wetroom in the middle of the van with a bifold door. A wetroom is a bathroom that functions as a shower. Instead of a shower stall, there is a showerhead on the wall that turns the room into a shower. Bifold doors are not the sturdiest, so this extra layer of water-repellent material is very useful.

The wet bath also has removable shelves that you can use as extra storage space or to dry off wet gear. There is a clothes rod at the top of the bath above the showerhead, so it only has to be removed to accommodate taller campers.

The Revel has a 21-gallon (79-liter) freshwater tank, which would provide about 8 minutes of water in a residential shower, though camper van showers usually provide less pressure, using less water.

One unique design feature is the 5-gallon (19-liter) cassette toilet, which swivels to sit against the wall while you shower and spins back out for more space when in use.

Unfortunately, there is no sink in the bathroom. You have to use the kitchen sink, which is right across from the bathroom.

Kitchen and Dining

The Winnebago Revel has a small laminate countertop in the middle of the van, creating a small kitchen area. In addition to the sink, there is a refrigerator and a portable induction cooktop.

Induction cooktops are safer than a traditional electric burner, but keep in mind that you will need to purchase compatible pots and pans. There is also a small pantry area.

Although the kitchen is minimal, it is a typical size for camper vans this small. The refrigerator faces the van door immediately to the left when you come in. This provides nice access from the outside, so you do not have to come in and out to grab a snack.

Up front, there is a bench seat with a removable pedestal table, and the driver’s seat swivels to allow the table to fit three adults comfortably, creating a dinette area.

Final Thoughts

Though the Winnebago Revel is small, at 19 feet and 7 inches (5.97 m), it has a shower and cassette toilet. It sleeps two adults with an optional cab air mattress that best accommodates a child.

Standout features of the Winnebago Revel include:

  • Powered patio awning
  • Screen doors on the side and rear of the van
  • Powered bed lift for additional day-time storage
  • Removable shelves in the wet room
  • Swivel seats to form a dinette area

If you are looking for a small camper that features performance and comfort, the Revel should be on your list!
