If you’ve been looking into small trailers, you may have heard about Scamp Trailers. Like many people, you might wonder, “What is a Scamp Trailer?”
A Scamp Travel Trailer is a lightweight, compact, molded fiberglass travel trailer that can be ordered with or without a bathroom. Scamp manufacturers a 13′, a 16′, and a 19′ trailer. Each size has many floor plan options, and all floor plans have the option for a wet bath. A “wet bath” is a bathroom where the toilet and shower are located in the same enclosure. Scamp trailers are made in the USA and outsources parts from manufacturers in the USA. Scamp Trailers, a family-owned business, has a reputation for manufacturing travel trailers that are durable, economical, and lightweight. Scamp trailers have many advantages. All Scamp trailers come equipped with sound-dampening fabric insulation that lines the walls. Each Scamp has a galley kitchen and a dining table that converts into a bed. Let’s look at some information about the Scamp Trailer:
How Much Does a Scamp Trailer Cost?
The 13′ Scamp trailer costs between $19,921 and $25,856. The 16′ foot Scamp trailer costs between $24,274 and $31,289. The 19′ Scamp trailer (fifth-wheel) costs $35,445. These prices are for the base model with no options.
Why are Scamp Trailers so expensive?
Rather than being cookie-cutter trailers on an assembly line, Scamp trailers are built to order. Building a trailer to order is far more expensive than building on an assembly line. Each Scamp is built using a fiberglass mold.
Purchasing the molds is expensive, and the fiberglass material is also more costly than materials used on traditionally built trailers like wood and aluminum. The number of trailers that can be built is limited by how many molds are available and the time it takes to process each trailer in the mold.
Scamp trailers are made in the USA in Backus, Minnesota. Scamp Trailers sources all parts from companies in the US. In addition, they are quality-made trailers, and the company does not skimp on design or finishes.

We towed our Scamp 13 with a 4-cylinder Toyota RAV-4. The Scamp 16 can be towed by most mid-sized trucks or SUVs with a tow rating above 3500 lbs. The Scamp 19 can be towed with a truck with a tow rating above 3400 lbs. Be sure to check your vehicle tow rating.

Sizes
How are Scamp Trailers measured?
Scamp trailer size is measured lengthwise from the bumper to the hitch.
Scamp Trailer | Size |
Scamp 13 | 13 feet |
Scamp 16 | 16 feet |
Scamp 19 (fifth-wheel) | 19 feet |
Floor Plans
Scamp Trailers come in several different floor plans, each size. It’s important to note that each size has a standard or deluxe option to choose from.
Standard vs Deluxe – What is Included?
The two main differences between the standard Scamp and deluxe Scamp are that the Deluxe Scamp is outfitted with beautiful oak or birch cabinets and comes standard with a larger main bed. We had the deluxe version of the Scamp 13 with the wood cabinets, which made it look more like a camper and less like a boat.
The Scamp 13 Standard has a 44″ wide bed, with the option of ordering the 54″ bed at an additional cost, while the Scamp 13 Deluxe comes standard with a 54″ bed. Both the Scamp 16 and 19 standard are equipped with a 1.9 cu. ft. refrigerator, while the deluxe is equipped with a 3.7 cu. ft. refrigerator. A 6.7 cu. ft. refrigerator is an option on one Scamp 19 model.
Scamp 13
The Scamp 13 is very compact and cozy. The standard and deluxe models are available with or without a wet bath. If you forgo the wet bath in the standard model, you can choose the sofa that converts to bunk beds. Options for the floor plans for the deluxe model are a front dinette, front bunk beds, or wet bath. All floor plans have an interior kitchen and a dinette that makes it into a full-sized bed.
The best thing about the 13′ Scamp is that you can pull it with a smaller vehicle. The first camper that my husband and I had together was a 13′ Scamp. We loved it because we could pull it with our 4-cylinder Toyota RAV-4. As always, be sure to check your vehicle tow rating and your trailer gross vehicle rating (GVWR) before towing.
In the standard Scamp, the bed width is 44″, but you can also get the standard with a wide bed of 54″ wide. The deluxe model comes with a larger 54-inch bed. The deluxe model was cozy for two of us on a 54-inch bed; I can’t imagine sleeping two people on a 44-inch bed. The length of the bed is approximately 75″, so if you are 6′ 3″, you can sleep on the outside of the bed, just barely, since the bed is curved near the wall.
A 1.9 cubic foot refrigerator that runs on propane or electricity comes standard but doesn’t have a freezer. When we had our 13′ Scamp, I missed having ice for drinks and ice cream for dessert.
As options, you can get an air conditioner, a furnace, and an awning. A power roof vent is also optional. And like I said, the deluxe models have beautiful oak or birch cabinetry. All models come with a 2-burner stove; as an option, you can get two five-gallon propane tanks.
If you are not interested in getting a wet bath with your Deluxe Scamp, you can opt for the front sofa that turns into bunk beds or a front dinette that converts into a child-sized bed.
